6.6.4 Management focus in a production context

Table 1 provides a framework for different production processes including a subset of the crucial characteristics of these different processes. The important point is that management’s focus should differ for different production processes. Pleas have a look at Table 1: "Important characteristics of production methods" in the PDF.

Now stop for a while and think about the production in your company. Does it look like an assembly line, continuous flow or of another type? What about the flow of raw materials and the needs for traceability? Do you have a high or medium number of by-products? Don’t you think the above table describes in a detail where production management should focus their attention?
