10.1.3 Where to Use HR Competences?

Now stop and think: If you are a manager, when do you use your HR competences? Can you point out particular situations requiring repetitive activities, or situations, which appear irregularly?

In analysing HR activities, you have probably realised that there are two types of activities:

  • HR activities performed on a daily basis, like supporting employees’ development, motivating people, etc.
  • HR activities performed on certain occasions, like recruitment and selection, establishing the salary level, systematic training needs analysis, etc.

A manager should always be ready to use their HR competences according to the situation in the managed team and team members’ individual/collective needs. If the company has an HR management specialist/department, the HR activities are shared between the specialist/department and the managers.

Now it’s your turn!
Classify the activities listed below according to its performer.
